Step-by-Step Installation Guide
1. Prepare the Surface
Ensure pavers are completely dry before starting. The surface must be free of any moisture, dew, or recent rain. Check the weather forecast - you need 24-48 hours of dry weather after installation.
2. Clean the Joints
Remove all existing sand, debris, and organic material from joints. Joints should be at least 1" deep for proper performance. Use a pressure washer if needed, but allow 24+ hours to dry completely.
3. Sweep in the Sand
Pour polymeric sand onto the surface and sweep vigorously into joints using a push broom. Work diagonally across pavers to ensure sand fills joints completely. Don't be gentle - aggressive sweeping is needed.
4. Compact the Sand
Use a plate compactor (with protective mat) to vibrate sand deep into joints. This is crucial for long-term stability. Sweep in additional sand and compact again until joints are completely full.
5. Remove ALL Excess Sand
This is the most critical step! Sweep all sand off paver surfaces until they're completely clean. Any residue left on pavers will harden and create a haze that's difficult to remove. Use a leaf blower on low setting for final cleanup.
6. Activate with Water
Set hose to shower/mist setting. Lightly spray the surface - don't flood it. Work in sections, watering just enough to saturate the joints without washing sand out. Follow manufacturer timing (usually 2-3 light waterings).
7. Allow to Cure
Keep foot traffic off for 24 hours. No heavy traffic or water exposure for 48 hours. Full curing takes 30 days, but joints will be firm enough for normal use after 48 hours.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
❌ Installing on Wet Pavers
Polymeric sand will stick to damp surfaces and create a stubborn haze. Always ensure pavers are bone dry before application.
❌ Leaving Excess Sand
Any sand left on paver surfaces will harden and create a white residue. Be thorough with cleanup before watering.
❌ Too Much Water
Flooding the surface washes polymers out of joints and can cause hazing. Use light, misting sprays only.
❌ Rain Too Soon
Check the weather! Rain within 24 hours can ruin the installation and wash out uncured polymers.
