⚠️ Common Mistakes to Avoid
-
Insufficient base depth
Using only 2-3 inches of base material instead of the recommended 10-12 inches for patios (6-8" for walkways, 15-18" for driveways). This leads to settling and shifting.
-
Wrong base material
Using limestone screenings instead of HPB or Granular A. Screenings don't drain properly and heave during freeze-thaw cycles.
-
No edge restraint
Skipping edge restraints causes pavers to spread and gaps to form. Always install proper edging.
-
Improper slope
Flat patios trap water. Always slope away from structures at 1/4 inch per foot.
-
Rushing compaction
Trying to compact 6 inches of base at once. Compact in 2-3 inch lifts for proper density.
